The Monument to Alfonso XII is a stunning edifice located in Buen Retiro Park in Madrid, Spain. It was designed by the architect Jose Grases Riera and built between 1902 and 1922. The monument was constructed in memory of King Alfonso XII, who died in 1885. The statue of the king, which sits atop the monument, was created by the sculptor Mariano Benlliure. The monument is made of stone and bronze, and it features intricate carvings and designs. Interestingly, the monument was built in an area of the park that was previously a marsh, which had to be drained before construction could begin.
